Phillip Thompson, the firm founder commenced employment in Penrith as an Articled Law Clerk with the firm of Ronald J Mulock which later became R J Mulock Timmins & Co.  After Phillip’s admission as a Solicitor in 1967, he started his own firm in St Marys and over a period of years that firm grew in size and status progressively being called Thompson Brawn & Associates, Astley Thompson, Astley Thompson & Valtas and lastly Astley Thompson Cox.

Astley Thompson & Valtas and Astley Thompson Cox initially operated in both St Marys and Penrith and in more recent years the St Marys office was closed.   This enabled our resources to be gathered in one area and assisted us in focusing more generally towards the Penrith region.  Prior to the closure of our St Marys office, there were a number of acquisitions and amalgamations with other legal firms which saw the size of our firm grow considerably.  These other legal firms included John Cram & Son of Penrith, Lorette McInnes of Glenbrook,  LWP Astley & Co. of St Marys and Astley McCowan & Levick of St Marys.
